Fall in love with coffee again!
Three herbs that will change your coffee drinking, forever.
Cafézia coffees are a blend of premium grade 100% Arabica beans, blended with a small amount of herbs carefully selected for their unique properties. 100% Arabica prime washed Fair Trade and organic beans from South and Central America grown at a precisely defined altitude range are carefully selected by our seasoned “cupper” (the coffee world’s equivalent to wine sommeliers). Special attention is given not only to point, body, aroma and overall flavour, but also to the taste profile of the selected coffees to ensure a consistent brew, season after season – year after year. This is not an easy goal to maintain. Coffees from any given region of the world will change from harvest to harvest making the cuppers’ job all that more demanding when seeking consistency at a high quality level. And yet, that is what we do and have done since Cafézia was first roasted years ago. We are not concerned with maintaining a recipe; we are with recreating a wonderful experience every time you enjoy a cup of Cafézia while always keeping our high standards and the highest organoleptic quality of our products.
What makes Cafézia different?
Cafézia may be perceived as a competitor to decaffeinated coffee. This is not the case at all. Cafézia preserves all the stimulating and sensoric qualities of regular coffee. Nothing is taken out. The aspect that makes Cafézia unique is the added herbal mixture, which has a positive influence on taste, metabolism, and brings something new and original in terms of quality to the consumer. Cafézia presents none of the potential issues and side effects that regular coffee may experience, and allows you to enjoy a cup late in the afternoon or in the evening, without negative influence on sleep. All of these properties, combined with the fact that it is sourced from organic, high quality 100% Arabica premium roasted coffee beans, makes Cafézia a premium product for the coffee lover. Cafézia is available as espresso beans (for fresh espresso coffee preparation), as a ground product for espresso, french press, or regular preparation for brewed coffee using conventional coffee machines. Cafézia also comes in the form of ready-to-use 7g espresso pods.
So, there's still caffeine in the coffee?
From our three Cafézia flavours, Sarah has more caffeine when compared to the other higher temperature roasted blends; New Orleans and Dark Roast. This is because caffeine sublimes at temperatures over 178°C. This is supported by many related studies published in international food-analysis journals, and it is proven in Cafézia as well. However, the different concentrations of caffeine in Cafézia products play no role in the possible unpleasant side effects caused by discrepancies in caffeine metabolism. The special ratio of herbs (all together 2% of total volume, w/w) guaranties a smoother digestion and release of caffeine to the blood stream, reducing the influences of the dopaminergic neurotransmission while giving a boost to the mind and motoric functions as would regular coffee. Together with a slightly higher pH of brewed Cafézia compared to regular coffee, our product is unique to the world coffee market.
what is coffee with herbs?
Caffeine, the main compound present in brewed coffee, has multiple effects on human physiology. The short-term beneficial effects include an increase in dopamine (a neural transmitter, which activates the pleasure centre in corresponding parts of the brain among other important functions), resulting in a mental and physical boost.
The antioxidant properties of coffee may be beneficial in diseases where the pathology is connected with the overproduction of free oxidative radicals, such as cancer or stroke. Coffee has also been linked to preventative research in a number of brain-related disorders such as Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s diseases.
However, some individuals find that, in the long-term, caffeine induces fatigue, headaches or irritability due to the reduction of dopamine after the initial release in corresponding tissues. Moreover, caffeine, as well as naturally occurring acids during the coffee-roasting process, may cause an upset stomach or even slight nausea after consumption.
Cafézia™ Herbal Coffee has developed a new coffee drink which combines a special mix of herbs to moderate the metabolism of caffeine and some acidic compounds present in brewed coffee. By lowering or eliminating the possible side effects of caffeine and acidic substances, the natural herbs not only enhance the quality and pleasure of drinking coffee but they also add a powerful boost to the immune system. Caffeine is known for its ability to cross the blood-brain barrier; an excellent delivery system for the healing herbal properties.
The recipe of Cafézia and all the related dose-response chemistry is owned and protected by Cafézia Inc., Canada. We apologize for not being allowed to go into further details concerning the beneficiary effects of our products; but try it for yourself and taste and feel the difference.
So what's in it?
Cleavers (Galium aparine) is a herbaceous annual plant of the family Rubiaceae native to North America and Eurasia.Uses and healing properties: As a mild diuretic and blood and lymphatic cleanser, cleavers detoxify the body and are useful in treating skin, urinary, and glandular conditions. Herbalists use it to lower blood pressure and body temperature. It also works in soothing tonsillitis, hepatitis, cystitis and arthritis. This herb stimulates liver function and improves digestion and absorption.
Hyssop (Hyssopus Officinalis) is a genus of about 10-12 species of herbaceous or semi-woody plants in the family Lamiaceae, native to the Mediterranean east to central Asia.Uses and healing properties:A strong tea made from the leaves and flowering tops of hyssop is used in lung, nose and throat congestion, and catarrhal complaints, and externally it can be applied to bruises, in order to reduce swelling and discoloration. An essential oil made from hyssop increases alertness and is a gentle relaxing nerve tonic suitable for treating nervous exhaustion, anxiety, and depression.
Yerba mate (Ilex paraguariensis), is a species of holly (family Aquifoliaceae) native to subtropical South America in Argentina, southern Paraguay, western Uruguay and southern Brazil.Uses and healing properties:Yerba Mate is used worldwide for weight loss by aiding digestion and increasing the lipolytic properties which break down fatty acids. It is also used for physical and mental fatigue, nervous depression, rheumatic pains, and psychogenic- and fatigue-related headaches. Yerba Mate contains elements such as potassium, magnesium and manganese. Users report a mental state of wakefulness, focus, and alertness reminiscent of most stimulants. They also report that Yerba Mate doesn't produce the same negative effects such as anxiety, diarrhea, jitteriness, and heart palpitations, commonly seen in other stimulants.
How do the herbs work? And, why do I even need them in my coffee?
Cafézia is a mixture of roasted coffee with three organic herbs - Hyssop, Yerba Mate, and Cleavers (known as Sweet Woodruff on the European market). Overall, these herbs represent less than 2% of the total weight of Cafézia. Their roles are: a) Slight enhancement of pH, which results in less acidity when brewed; b) Regulation of caffeine metabolism, which results in the lowering or complete elimination of negative side effects of caffeine in affected coffee drinkers. Studies looking at the impact of caffeine on human metabolism and its possible adverse effects have shown that about 40% of North America's population that is above 40 years old demonstrate some form of adverse reaction to consuming coffee.
We developed Cafézia to make coffee accessible to all coffee drinkers by alleviating any potential adverse effects. Those who enjoy coffee and wish to work late in the evenings, or simply need a mental or physical boost now have Cafézia as an option. Cafézia is not only designated for consumers which have trouble drinking coffee due to side effects, but also for those that want to have a cup of coffee later in the afternoon without influencing their quality of sleep during the night.
